Reset Urban Design have recently been working jointly with Development Christchurch, Christchurch City Council and Matapopore on the redevelopment of Marine Parade, New Brighton Town Centre. Marine Parade is the prime waterfront street which connects the New Brighton township with the foreshore and the iconic pier, and will be developed into a traffic calmed street with wide sidewalks, cultural artworks and will be able to be closed off to better host events such as the famous annual Duke surfing festival held every March and the family kite day held in December.
Along with the recently constructed playspace and the hot pools that are being currently built on the foreshore, the redevelopment of Marine Parade is part of a broader programme which aims to respond to the damage caused to the centre in the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes. A series of projects aim to revitalise the seaside village, including the revival of the commercial centre with the attraction of private investment, residential development and transport projects. These projects will bring greater resilience, investment and visitors to this great coastal centre.
