Pearl River Design Guide

Reset Urban Design has been working in collaboration with the Guangzhou Urban Planning & Design Survey Research Institute (GZPI) on the Pearl River Back Channel – Riverfront Design Guideline. The 98 page report provides a comprehensive design guideline for a 100m wide continuous riverfront park along the entire 20km edge of the Back Channel of the Pearl River in Haizhu Island, central Guangzhou. This is currently a vast industrial area which is being rapidly urbanised to accommodate Guangzhou’s massive population increase.

The guideline establishes a compelling vision, clear design principles, maps out the interventions and outlines the standards of different park elements and features of the riverfront which will retain some of the industrial character whilst developing the areas delta ecology and featuring wetlands playing fields, event spaces, promenades and cycleways.  Also provided are three dimensional concept designs for a series of key demonstration projects across 5 nodes.
