Hobson Bay Visioning
Radical landscape vision
Visionary projects are an important part of Reset Urban Design’s practise, they allow us to expand possibilities and ways to design the landscape. Our idea for proposing further reclamation for the centre of Hobson Bay was a radical thought but it came from working on adjacent Judges Bay and dealing with a legacy of clumsy infrastructure. At Hobson Bay we could not pretend roading rail and marina were not there or screen them out. They had over a hundred years cut right across this large central city bay reducing its access and creating sedimentation. Our vision was to purposefully create an island in the centre of the bay – a massive landscape feature that would incorporate and dominate the infrastructure whilst providing greater access to the coast, providing new facilities and increasing the ecological health of Hobson Bay.
