North Head Coastal Access

Sensitive foreshore design

The vision for this coastal walkway project is to provide safer, more legible, environmentally and historically sensitive access to the area of foreshore between the Naval Museum and North Head on Auckland’s North Shore. The current walkway is well used, and connects into a larger context of the Devonport to Takapuna coastal walkway, however the link from Torpedo Bay to North Head is limited by tide levels, and has significant fall heights and safety issues. Specific key design principles have been explored to improve this important link while responding to the high sensitivity of this marine environment and conditions.
