Waitangi Estate Opportunity Studies

Reset Urban Design has prepared an opportunity study for the Waitangi National Estate which compromises a land area of over 506 hectares and includes the historic  Waitangi Treaty Grounds. The Waitangi National Trust was set up by an Act of Parliament to administer the estate with a Deed of Trust, drawn up in 1932.

As part of the study an integrated ecosystem approach was developed that identified key concepts for the different areas of this extensive site in the centre of the Bay of Islands. The entire estate was proposed to be fully integrated and publicly accessible; Development of central theme of care and husbandry of the land; Expanded range of uses and activities; A large heritage precinct; Greater economic generation of income and employment through accommodation, food production and learning of skills.
