Quay Street Pocket Park

Transformational micro-park

The Quay Street Pocket Park is one of the first ‘transformational moves’ for the down town Auckland area identified in the Council’s City Centre Masterplan 2012. This new micro-park gives Aucklander’s a glimpse of design elements and characteristics that could be part of Quay Street’s future transformation into a world-class waterfront boulevard. The park is unique in that it is a semi-permanent fixture that has been created to test ideas, act as a podium for discussion, and to help inform future design decisions associated with the Quay Street place-making initiative. The park also demonstrates how we can repurpose seemingly unusable vehicle dominated spaces within our city, in this case a taxi rank, and create a unique and attractive ‘park’ for the use and enjoyment of pedestrians
