Urban Transformation: Insights from Mumbai and Singapore

Recently on a work project Garth travelled to Mumbai the financial capital of India.
Also known as the city that never sleeps, Mumbai’s surging population is currently around 12 million and is being retrofitted with new infrastructure such as the 5.6km Sealink causeway and a Metro system. Impressive state of the art residential tower developments are cropping up in stark contrast right next door to traditional fishing villages. The city and its inhabitants seem to be unfazed with change and continue to go about their business
On a brief stop over in Singapore Garth was shown around the Urban Renewal Authority Planning display and recent works including the 24km long Rail Corridor parkway that Sherry Berg worked on during her 8 years at the Authority see here. Fitted in also a quick visit to the Jewel shopping mall at Changi Airport designed by Moshe Safdie and PWP landscape architects that combines market place and a celebration of natural phenomena with a massive central water vortex and tropical garden atrium.
Great to experience these entirely different yet stimulating places.
