Reset provided specialist urban design and landscape architectural services for the Awa Park Development in Fielding, Manawatu. Reset was engaged by Classic Developments to provide master planning and urban design services for a 106ha ‘development ready’ greenfield site on the northern edge of Feilding. The development site is in single landholding and forms a large portion of the Growth Precinct 4 which is envisaged to provide for the majority of the residential growth in Feilding over the next 20 years.
Reset prepared a comprehensive urban design approach to guide the spatial arrangement and development layout of the entire development site. A review of the strategic and planning documents was provided to assist in aligning with the high-level and statutory context. A detailed site analysis followed by an opportunities and constraints analysis outlined the site’s urban design characteristics and examined the opportunities and challenges for future urban developments. On the basis of context and site analysis, a series of design principles and key moves are developed to guide the masterplan layout.
The illustrative masterplan sets out the overall spatial arrangement with a number of characteristic precincts provided. A comprehensive approach is undertaken in considering the open space, street network, built form, landscape and pedestrian linkage. The vision for Awa Park is a comprehensively planned residential community that stands the test of time. A highly accessible, walkable, and engaging neighbourhood extending along the reaches of Mangakino Stream.
