Reset was engaged by DCC to provide a design for the full upgrade of the St Clair Playground. The current playground was overdue for an upgrade and lacked play opportunities for older children. The site offered a great opportunity with changes in topography and its association with both the beach and the adjacent hospitality businesses.

Initial ideas explored utilising the topography of the site and introducing play opportunities to the higher terrace, and the potential of a tower (lighthouse) structure that could become a focal point within the area and from the beach.  The vision established for the project was focused on the key values of mana, mauri, whakapapa, whanaukataka, kaitiaki and manaaki and led the design process to create a welcoming place that will be accessible, inclusive, diverse and safe for gathering to play within the natural environment of the marine esplanade for the community.

Reset worked collaboratively with Aukaha to develop the cultural narrative and explore opportunities for expression and storytelling within the playground.

The playground was re-opened in June 2025 with a range of improvements aimed at making the park more adventurous and accessible for children of all ages and abilities. New play elements include a tube slide, a sand play area, a nature play area, a palisade climbing structure and an easy swing bed. The seesaw has been replaced, and a standing swing reinstated.
