What grew from a public meeting on the concern over the future of the town centre has developed over two years into the Heart of Wānaka Town Centre Plan, an effective community driven initiative to provide for the ongoing design of their town centre.
Driven by the vision that the traditional centre of Wānaka on Roys Bay that includes the surrounding reserves should continue to be the heart of the community; a place where the lake meets the town, where all people can meet and safely and comfortably gather, shop, recreate and celebrate in a world class location with great facilities, open space and quality built form. The Heart of Wānaka Town Centre Plan (HOW) report encapsulates the findings and directions, and is intended as a guide to inform future decisions, identify projects and priorities.
